Lorenzo Brigato is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the ARTORG center, a research institution affiliated with the University of Bern, and is currently involved in the application of AI to health and nutrition. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. He earned an M.Sc. in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics with honors in 2018 from the same university. Previously, he obtained a B.Sc. in Engineering Sciences at the Tor Vergata University of Rome, Italy. During his Ph.D., he has broadly investigated two hot research areas of current machine learning: how to make learning models more data-efficient and able to better detect anomalies. He has taken on various leadership roles concerning mentorships and teachings like co-supervising Master's theses and holding seminars and tutoring sessions for exams (e.g., machine learning, fundamentals of programming). He collaborated with researchers from other universities (e.g., University of Verona, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Delft University of Technology), and presented his work to international computer vision and robotics conferences. To work on his Master's thesis, he spent 3 months at HES-SO University of Valais, Switzerland, and developed machine learning algorithms for automatic recognition of movements for robotic hand prostheses.
